A Celebration of the History and Culture of Haiti

Join us at Studio 620 to learn about, and celebrate, the history and rich culture of Haiti.  See the country through over 40 photographs by seven St. Petersburg Times photojournalists who have worked in Haiti.  Photographs depict culture, politics, news and daily life over a timespan of about 20 years.

Haitian food, music, and history discussion will take place on Friday and Saturday nights.

About the Photographers

Lara Cerri - photographed in Haiti in 1990 to cover the campaign preceding the election of Jean-Bertrand Aristide, Haiti's first democratically elected president.

Melissa Lyttle - photographed daily life in Haiti in 2003, and covered the earthquake aftermath in 2010.

Kathleen Flynn - photographed in Haiti in 2003 for a story about Carol Herget of Brooksville, Florida.  Herget was a missionary in the Caribbean for about 54 years until she passed away in 2003.

Daniel Wallace - photographed in Haiti in 2004 for a stories about Tropical Storm Jeanne and about Dr. Paul Farmer of Brooksville, Florida.  For over 20 years, Dr. Farmer has been doing medical work in the central plateau of Haiti.  In 1987 he co-founded Partners In Health, (PIH) an organization which was created to provide health care to remote regions in Haiti.

John Pendygraft - photographed in Haiti in 2004 to cover the rebellion and Jean-Bertrand Aristide's departure, and again after the earthquake in 2010.

Edward Linsmier - photographed extensively in Haiti for Food for the Poor, an international relief and development charity.  Most recently, he covered the earthquake aftermath.

Maurice Rivenbark - photographed in Haiti in the late 1980's.  His photographs show elections and daily life.
