Verso: The Other Side of the Urban Vista

Photographs by Thomas U. Gessler

Amidst the wires and conduit, the utility boxes and meters, emerge patterns and compositions.  A serene beauty exists in these unlikely locations he photographs.

Explore the subtleties of the urban landscape uniquely collected and elegantly reproduced in this series of 20 black and white, photographic prints.  An active photographer for 30 years, Tom has developed a keen sense of seeing and often stakes out a shot for days or weeks, carefully checking shadows at different times of day, before capturing that perfect moment with his camera.

This deliberate attention given to the capturing of an image continues after the image is transferred from camera to computer.  Within the digital darkroom Tom carefully manipulates the photographs to match his vision, aligning angles and removing stray elements, he reduces the visual noise creating a landscape rich in detail yet spare and austere.

The sum of his efforts and his talent are evident in the work selected for this show, Mr. Gessler's first solo exhibition.

Opening Reception on April 24 will include a brief question and answer session with the artist.
