The Florida Orchestra at The Studio@620: An Intimate Collaboration

The Passionate Life

The Passionate Life: Highlighting Music by Richard Strauss & Shostakovich

As a multi-cultural prelude to The Florida Orchestra’s next Masterworks concert, The Studio@620 and The Florida Orchestra present An Intimate Collaboration: The Passionate Life with discussion, music, and other art forms related to composers Richard Strauss and Dmitri Shostakovich, whose music is featured on the Masterworks series on January 8, 9 and 10.

This is the final event of this four-part series with The Florida Orchestra at The Studio@620 and will include an animated conversation about the music and lives of Richard Strauss and Dimitri Shostakovich. Guests include Florida Orchestra Music Director Stefan Sanderling, Salvador Dali Museum Director Hank Hines, and The Studio@620 Artistic Director Bob Devin Jones. There are always wonderful surprises and fascinating insights in these talks, and there should be plenty here in that Stefan Sanderling’s father, conductor Kurt Sanderling, worked directly with Shostakovich, who was often a guest in the Sanderling home.

Soprano Lynne Locher and a pianist  will perform two works by Richard Strauss: Morgen!, Op. 27, No. 4, in G major, and All Mein Gedanken, Op. 21, No. 1, in E major.  Strauss’ Capriccio, Op. 85 will be performed by a string sextet of Florida Orchestra musicians: Lei Liu and Mary Corbett, violins; Ben Markwell and Ken Kwo, violas; and Lowell Adams and Laura Smith, cellos.

An Intimate Collaboration: The Passionate Life takes place this Tuesday, January 5, at 7:30 pm at The Studio@620 located at 620 First Avenue South in downtown St. Petersburg.  Seating is limited and reservations are required. Suggested donation $10. To place a reservation, call 727.895.6620
