Sustainability Efforts on Bay Area Campuses

A roundtable discussion with sustainability leaders from Tampa Bay’s academic community

The Studio@620 welcomes a variety of representatives from local colleges and universities to discuss sustainability efforts and green practices on area campuses.  This event is free and open to the public and will take place on Wednesday September 23, 2009 from 7 - 9 pm.

About the discussion

How are academic institutions meeting the challenge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and reduce their carbon footprint? What are the strategies that they are using to become more “green,” less wasteful, and more energy efficient? Colleges and universities across the country are exercising leadership in their communities by modeling ways to eliminate global warming emissions, and by producing graduates educated in environmental issues and concerns.

Some campuses are making an effort to become climate neutral, which means net zero emissions of greenhouse gases. Is this a realistic objective, or an environmentalist’s dream? What alternative energy sources could lead to climate neutrality? How can current energy needs be reduced by conservation and increased efficiency?

Panelists will give brief presentations on current and future plans for sustainability on their campus, followed by a roundtable discussion amongst all participants.

The general public and students are welcome to attend.
