Sacred dances from “The Island of the Gods”

Purnama Sari Balinese Dance Company will present sacred dances from “The Island of the Gods” at The Studio@620 in St. Petersburg at 7:30 pm on Friday, May 6.  The performance will include a classic court dance, ritual dances, and ancient mask dances. Balinese dance was created and has been performed as the offering to the deities of Bali.  For the Balinese, dance is a medium for traveling between “Sekala” (the world of form) and “Niskala” (the world of spirits).  The founders of Purnama Sari (“essence of full moon”), Surapsari and Indra, studied traditional Balinese dance with internationally acclaimed masters from Ubud, the arts capital of Bali.  Since its inception in 2000, “Purnama Sari has been performing and teaching in the U.S. and Bali.  Admissions are $20 for general and $15 for students.  A limited number of Red Member Tickets will be accepted for this performance.
