An evening of movie magic

On Friday, May 29, 620 Sideways presents a screening of independent film smash Sideways, hosted by the Renaissance Vinoy Resort & Golf Club in their beautiful Grand Ballroom. A panel discussion with Academy Award® winners Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor and Academy Award® nominee Virginia Madsen follows the film.  Appetizers and wine (but no merlot!) round out this evening of movie magic.

An afternoon of Sideways conversation

On Saturday, May 30, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m., three of the artists from the independent film success Sideways will discuss the creative process that brings a movie from idea to audience.

Sideways is one of the most successful and critically acclaimed independent films ever made, winning 93 film awards including the Oscar®. This film expresses the same uncompromising yet beautiful vision of life, love and relationships found in the many artistic collaborations at Studio@620 in the past five years.

Alexander Payne both directed and co-wrote Sideways, for which he shared the Academy Award® for Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay) with our second panel participant, Jim Taylor.  Their collaborative work has led to a string of challenging and critically acclaimed films, including About Schmidt, Election and Citizen Ruth. 

The third member of our panel is Virginia Madsen, an actress with 80 movie and television credits in her active career. Ms. Madsen received her first Academy Award® nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her work on this groundbreaking film.

This talented panel will be moderated “Actor’s Studio”-style by Neil DeGroot, a director and writer from St. Petersburg with an extensive resume in television and film. Together, they will discuss the complex interaction of writing, acting and directing to create a singular artistic vision on film. Examples drawn from the making of Sideways and other movies will put a practical face on film-making theory and provide critical insights for anyone seeking to join the film community.
