A Life In Progress: A Portfolio Of Works By J. R. Duffy

“Since I can remember I have had a passion to document my perception, through drawing, of life as we may or may not know it.” Whether by ridiculing classmates in a series of questionable yet humorous comic strips or frustratingly sketching his opinion of the latest in political news, J. R. Duffy found that he was always encompassed by a desire to visually produce his thoughts. Though connected by a distinguishable style, His subjects range from fantasy and science fiction to the ironically news worthy to the “oh my God, who would create such a thing!?” to children’s books… yes, children’s books. Through his interpretation of life he has created images of cosmic beauty in vivid colors that glow off of the surface and has created images of such sadness and shame that are best kept away from civilized company. This exhibition reflects the past several years until now of these interpretations.

J. R. Duffy attended the Ringling School of Art and Design at the dawn of the new millennium. Since graduation he has worked as a freelance illustrator, spreading his vision across the land.

Jake Cline: The Truth

Jake Cline moved to Florida from Ohio's rust belt six years ago to pursue a more positive outlook on didn't work. No matter how much sunshine there is, the truth is always lurking in the bushes ready to pummel you. That is the concept his artwork looks to explore. Cline sets out to prove through illustration, expressive painting and most recently ceramic sculpture, that sometimes the ugliest aspects of life are the most interesting and usually the most honest. "I don't purposely try to create works that are negative or grim. I'm actually just trying to point out that beauty and humor can, and should be sought out in every situation, especially the unpleasant ones." Cline currently resides in a fortified compound in north Saint Petersburg with his two bengal tigers and his beautiful muse of positive thinking at his side.
