Block Printing Basics

A Dirty Hands Workshop presented by The Crafty Hag and The Studio@620

The Studio@620 is announcing an opportunity to learn about the artistic process of printmaking and enjoy a hands-on one day workshop.  Block Printing Basics: A Dirty Hands Workshop will be presented on Saturday June 27, 2009 from 10 AM – 4:30 PM.

What to expect

Participants will learn a brief history of block printing as an art form and then will have hands-on time to carve, ink, and print an image of their own creation.  We will briefly touch on different relief printing methods incorporating collage and hand coloring.  Leading the group will be local artist Coralette Damme, who commonly exhibits in area arts festivals under the name of The Crafty Hag.  Coralette has a degree in fine art from the University of Nebraska and has woodcut prints in the permanent collection of the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery in Lincoln, NE and in countless homes across the country.  Coralette organized The Studio's "Print Show" in 2008 and thinks everyone should give printmaking a try at least once.

Printmaking is fun and everyone can be successful at it.  Remember, you don't have to be an artist to take an art class!

Group size is limited to 20 participants.  Event is recommended for participants aged 13 years or older and is open to all regardless of prior artistic experience.  Registration fee of $75 includes supplies and lunch.

You'll be working with an easily carved block and water based inks--prepare to get a little dirty!

Optional: bring extra scratch paper, pencil, felt tip markers etc. with you for planning out your ideas.
