Midtown Through Our Eyes
48 energized student journalists. 100 amazing photos. 1 awesome magazine. Countless eye-opening experiences.

Program Overview

Those are the results of the fourth Midtown Summer Journalism camp, which brought together students from Melrose Elementary and John Hopkins Middle Schools. The student journalists explored the Midtown community through a series of more than 30 field trips over the 11 day camp.

The students were some of the most enthusiastic and talented yet.  One student reporter was concerned she wasn't prepared enough for her field trip and interviews the following day, so she worked from home to research her subject and wrote 20 questions.  Another student photojournalist took home his work folder and selected his favorite photos and wrote his captions on his own so that  he was sure to have enough time to get everything done.

Everywhere you turned, students were working together to get the job done, more experienced students helping less experienced students and bilingual students even translating for photo subjects out on the job.  This magazine and exhibit are a great example of what can happen when a team works together.

Through this exhibit, you'll truly see Midtown through their eyes.
