Program Overview
Les Standiford is the author of the critically acclaimed
Last Train to Paradise, about the building of Henry Flagler's
railroad from Miami to Key West and the Labor Day Hurricane of
1935 that blew it all away, as well as teen novels, which included
the widely praised John Deal series. He is the Director of the
Creative Writing Program at Florida International University.
His non-fiction book (published by Crown/Random House) Meet
You in Hell: Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick and the Bitter
Partnership That Transformed America, was the publisher's nomination for
both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award in 2005.
Peter Meinke will host the
event. Peter, an accomplished
poet and fiction writer, is the author of eight collections.
These include Liquid Paper, Fax From
Home and Night Watch
on the Chesapeake.
