Program Overview

“To end war and poverty, African and other oppressed peoples must regain control of their land, resources and destiny."

The African People's Solidarity Committee presents an evening of presentations, multi-media and music in a benefit for the African-led programs and campaigns of the Uhuru Movement.

Omali Yeshitela is the keynote speaker. A St. Petersburg-born voting rights organizer in the 1960s, Yeshitela has spent over four decades fighting for the rights of African people. Today he leads the work of the African Socialist International to unite Africa win back its vast resources for the benefit of African people everywhere.

Mfanelo Skwatsha is a leader in the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (South Africa), the group that initiated the mass protests against apartheid. Today, African people in South Africa are worse off than ever, with over 90% of the land is still controlled by white settlers. Skwatsha will speak about the growing movement to reclaim the land.

Chernoh Alpha M. Bah is Director of the Africanist Movement with over 100,000 members across West Africa. He brings a first hand account of the recent Sierra Leone elections, the popular strikes in Guinea-Conakry and his continued efforts to implement national democratic programs in the region.

Penny Hess is author of "Overturning the Culture of Violence" and leader of the African People's Solidarity Committee. “African People’s Solidarity Day is a part of our work to rectify the reality that white wealth is founded on slavery and genocide. We believe that an honest stand in support of the struggles of the African community – against poverty, war, police violence, and unjust imprisonment – is key to building a world of peace, justice and unity.”
