Sarasota’s newest and most adventurous contemporary music collective is headed to St. Pete to present an hour-long program of inspiring and thought provoking works from the 20th and 21st centuries. For three seasons, enSRQ has been thrilling Sarasota audiences with daring and intrepid performances of new masterpieces and this concert in St. Petersburg represents our first trip north. Co-Artistic Directors George Nickson and Samantha Bennett (both are also principal members of the Sarasota Orchestra), look forward to sharing their vision of profound live music experiences and fun, casual post concert receptions with a new, adventurous audience.
About this program: Metal of the vibraphone, wind of the oboe, and wood of the strings feud on this concert where Italian master, Franco Donatoni, shines in two important works (that are more similar than they first appear!). Our complete cycle of Luciano Berio’s Sequenzas continues with oboist, Nicholas Arbolino. The battle between wind and wood concludes with Melinda Wagner’s fiendishly beguiling work, Scritch. Kevin Puts’ sublime string sextet, Arcana, ties it all together.
Luciano Berio- Sequenza VII for solo oboe
Franco Donatoni- Omar for solo vibraphone
Franco Donatoni- Arpege for six instruments
Kevin Puts- Arcana for string sextet
Melinda Wagner- Scritch for oboe and string quartet
ensembleNEWSRQ strives to manifest the creativity of the current generation and inspire audiences to participate in musical culture in a profound way,
through high-level curated concert experiences that sustain and transform the relevance of contemporary classical music.
