The Studio@620 welcomes the return of Spec Performance Series as they present their third evening of interactive dance "Dimensions" on April 6, 2013 at 8 PM. The night will include several seven minute performances including music, dance, film, and theatre in various combinations, followed by a moderated discussion with audience members. Admission to this event is $10.

Spec Performance Series is a laboratory of live original performance artwork that invites performers and audiences to invent a local culture of collaboration. The series hosts regular events of short works in progress by contemporary performing artists. Each event has a unique feedback session that gives audience members the rare chance to partake in the creative process. The viewers become critics and collaborators, sampling bite-sized portions of Tampa Bay’s freshest works in progress.

Featured artists of Dimensions include Christina Acosta, Candace Kaw, Hunter Payne, John Fuentes, Tina Tidwell, and Erin Tracy.

Some highlights of Dimensions include:

  • American Ballet Theatre certified choreographer Shana Perkins, recipient of a Bates Teachers Fellowship and 2007 Hillsborough County Individual Artist Grant.
  • Candace Kaw, director, collaborates with composer Geoff Sheil and choreographers Caitlyn Casson and Julien Christopher on original dance for film L’Esprit de L’Escalier.
  • Original dance-theatre creations by Spec Artistic Directors Erin Tracy and Tina Tidwell, who were both awarded Individual Artist Grants from the Arts Council of Hillsborough County in 2013 for separate projects that will begin to take shape at Dimensions.

Spec Performance Series is organized by Erin Tracy and Tina Tidwell. This event is made possible through the dedication and generosity of the Arts Council of Hillsborough County, Hampton Arts Management, The Gobioff Foundation, Creative Loafing, HCC Ybor, Red Canary Photography, Yogani Studios, Bella Prana Yoga and Meditation, and evolation yoga.

The first two shows in Spec Performance Series, Identity and Second, were performed to sold out houses in June and December of 2012. Spec was a top finalist for Creative Loafing’s 10/100/1000 grant, performed at FIVE by FIVE, and was a featured artist at Creative Pinellas’ FEAST.

Why not adapt the [Pecha Kucha] format for performing artists? Spec Performance Series will do just that: Artists in theater, dance, live music, film, performance art or any combination thereof will get 7-11 minutes apiece to present highlights of their latest work, followed by a moderated discussion with the audience.”- David Warner, Creative Loafing
