August 20, 2015
Local jazz heroes David Pate, saxophone and Michael Ross, bass will present a unique concert of duos, solos, and improvisations on Thursday August 20 2015, at 7:00pm. This presentation will celebrate the Duo's 40th anniversary of making music together. Having first played together at a jam session in 1975, Ross and Pate have since been involved in many performances together, including jazz festivals, recordings, numerous jazz educational workshops, and basketball games. They formed the nucleus of jazz groups Liquid Bebop, The Michael Ross Quartet and The Downtown Trio. The concert will consist of interpretations of jazz standards (Monk, Mingus, Ornette) , original compositions, solo and duo improvisations, and maybe some spontaneous jaunts into some uncharted territories.Having made music together for 40 years, a strong intuitive interplay exists between the two longtime friends. There is a strong possibility thag the sharing of war, gig, and other stories may occur..
