Local artist, Tyler Staggs, exhibits a new body of work, Connections, which explores the relationships between life experiences and his personal relationships with others. After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Staggs has taught art in a wide range of settings to many people with varying abilities and disabilities in the Tampa Bay area. Some of these settings include the position as Art Coordinator at Project Return, where Staggs educated and facilitated art to adults experiencing mental illnesses, as a teaching artist at PARC where he taught adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and an teaching residency where he implemented his curriculum to teach troubled youth to draw at AMI Kids. Through an understanding of his own personal experiences, Staggs is able to understand and share his knowledge through art to help others expand their abilities. He also regularly teaches and entertains thousands of students at Painting with a Twist. This exhibition embraces Staggs’ own fears of vulnerability by showcasing personal growth through art. Through performance art and painting, he’ll share his philosophy of individual transformation and overcoming inner obstacles. By sharing the importance of his relationships with others, he hopes the viewer creates their own personal connections.
