Play Synopsis:
Is TJ who he says he is? Is Sally who she says she is? Or is each who the other says the other is? A black man invades a white woman's life, claiming she's someone she says she isn't. The results are a racial and personal conflagration that changes both the intruder and intruded upon. A modern twist on Sally Hemings and Thomas Jefferson that unleashes a tsunami of anger and emotion leading to cleansing.
Playwriting Workshop
A free playwriting workshop with Tony-award winning playwright Mark Medoff will be held on Saturday January 10 from 11 AM - 3 PM. Mr. Medoff is currently the teaching playwright at the University of Houston School of Theatre and Dance. He won the Tony and Drama Desk Award in 1980 for "Children of a Lesser God" which was later adapted for film.
The Studio@620 is hosting this workshop in conjunction with their production of "Tommy J and Sally". Anyone interested in attending should RSVP to 727-895-6620.
About the director
Craig Wallace is excited to make his professional directorial debut at The Studio@620. He is a classically trained actor who has performed in numerous theatres around the country. Tommy J and Sally has been an important play to Craig ever since he created the role of Tommy J under the direction of Bob Devin Jones at Woolly Mammoth Theatre in Washington DC. Craig is very grateful to Bob and Mark Medoff for t heir continued support and the opportunity to introduce Florida theatre goers to this intriguing and dynamic piece of storytelling.
