Program Overview
A reception and benefit for former child soldier and award-winning
journalist Chernoh Alpha M. Bah of Sierra Leone, Africa will welcome him to St.
Petersburg as part of his U.S. tour. At the event will be hip hop artists Bombai, spoken word artist Lizz Straight and Uhuru Movement leader Omali Yeshitela.

At 12 Mr. Bah, now 27, was forced into the Sierra Leone army as one of the
infamous child soldiers in the deadly U.S. backed civil war that devastated the
region in the 1990's.
Before he was 20 Mr. Bah organized the Awareness Movement of Sierra Leone,
edited THE POINT newspaper and was sent into exile in Guinea-Conakry where he
became a political prisoner.
Today Mr. Bah heads up the popular Africanist Movement, based in eight
countries in West Africa. He is a columnist for THE DEMOCRATIC NEWSPAPER.
With passion and commitment Chernoh Alpha M. Bah speaks about the roots of
Africa's crisis, the reality in Africa today and his vision for a just future
through a united Africa.
